The Institute for Risk Assessment Sciences (IRAS) at Utrecht University is a multidisciplinary research institute dedicated to advancing the understanding of risks associated with human exposure to chemicals, physical agents, and biological factors. IRAS collaborates with experts in toxicology, epidemiology, environmental sciences, and other related fields.

Role in the project

Utrecht University (UU) plays a significant role in the EDC-MASLD project. UU contributes expertise in connecting human exposure levels to the progression of MASLD (WP3). Furthermore, UU will lead the experimental work package 5, and will perform research utilizing zebrafish models to provide valuable insights into the mechanisms underlying MASLD progression (WP5). Additionally, UU is actively engaged in the development of (quantitative) Adverse Outcome Pathways ((q)AOPs) specifically tailored for MASLD and its progression (WP4) and has a role in dissemination activities (WP8).
