We are proud to announce the successful conclusion of our first EDC-MASLD Policy Forum, held on November 19, 2024, with over 60 participants, including experts from the ENKORE Cluster. This event was an essential platform for exchanging insights and aligning the latest scientific findings with regulatory strategies on endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs).
Key Highlights from the Forum:
- Opening and Closing Remarks by Prof. Tuulia Hyötyläinen (Örebro University), who set the stage by introducing the EDC-MASLD project and outlining the collaborative goals of the ENKORE Cluster.
- Expert Presentations included:
- Prof. Matej Orešić (Örebro University) discussed bile acids and their role in liver health.
- Elisabetta Bugianesi and Chiara Rosso (University of Torino) shed light on sexual dimorphism and its implications for liver damage in MASLD patients.
- Jorke Kamstra (Utrecht University) and Georg Braun (UFZ) provided comprehensive evidence synthesis to guide risk assessment practices.
- You Song (NIVA) introduced the application of Adverse Outcome Pathways (AOPs) for EDC assessment.
- Marie Louise Holmer (DTU) presented on New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) for identifying EDCs.
- Eva Serrano-Candelas (ProtoQSAR) discussed co-exposure pattern analysis for better understanding of EDC effects.
- Prof. Joan Grimalt (CSIC Barcelona) shared insights on biomarkers related to EDC exposure.
The forum featured a dedicated Q&A session, encouraging attendees to pose questions and share perspectives directly with the presenters. Additionally, a collaborative Whiteboard was available for participants to document their reflections, key insights, and areas requiring further research throughout the event. The forum successfully underscored the significance of integrating non-animal testing methods, early detection markers, and robust data synthesis to inform future policies.
Thank You! We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all speakers, contributors, and participants for making this forum a valuable experience. Your input is essential in advancing our shared mission of improved public health policy and regulatory practices concerning EDCs.
Stay connected with us and the ENKORE Cluster for ongoing updates in EDC research.
