Our PI Elisabetta Bugianesi and her team from the University of Turino will be presenting their work at the 57th Annual Meeting of the Italian Association for the Study of the Liver in Rome from 27-28 March 2025.
Their presentation on the Impact of sexual dimorphism on liver damage in patients with metabolic-dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease highlights that MASLD is a sexually dimorphic condition, characterized by a high prevalence in men compared to premenopausal women, but the reverse is true after menopause. Steroids, including glucocorticoids and sex hormones, regulate both glucose and lipid metabolism, and their perturbation may exert a detrimental effect on metabolic pathways promoting liver damage.
