The 6th Annual Forum on Endocrine Disruptors, organized by the European Commission, was held as a hybrid event in Brussels, Belgium, from October 29 to 30, 2024.
During the Annual Forum on Endocrine Disruptors, projects from the ENKORE cluster were introduced. Dr. Jorke Kamstra, our work package partner Utrecht University, presented the EDC-MASLD project. Dr. Kamstra provided insights into the overarching project, emphasizing the investigation of how endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) contribute to the progression of Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD).
Key topics covered in the presentation included:
- The rationale for evaluating the impact of EDCs on MASLD development.
- A detailed overview of clinical multi-omics studies, animal and in vitro models, and a systems biology platform designed for comprehensive EDC effect assessment.
- The anticipated outcomes of understanding how EDC exposure contributes to liver damage and the associated biological processes.
A notable part of the panel discussion highlighted the importance of connecting with stakeholders to align efforts and expectations. This will be a central focus as the EDC-MASLD project team prepares for its EDC-MASLD policy forum on November 19. The event will serve as an opportunity to delve deeper into the project’s details and foster dialogue with stakeholders to gather their perspectives and build collaborative pathways.
