Roy Brouwer 

Dr. Roy Brouwer is Professor in Economics at the University of Waterloo, Canada, and Adjunct Professor at the Institute for Environmental Studies, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Before joining the University of Waterloo in 2016, he was head of the Environmental Economics Department at IVM (2004-2015). Brouwer is active in European research projects focusing on environmental and public health risks related to hazardous chemicals and plastics pollution (e.g. PRORISK, CLAIM), and represents the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE) in the European Chemicals Agency. His public health research has focused among others on melanoma, bacteriological contamination of European bathing waters, endocrine disrupting micropollutants in wastewater, nitrogen and arsenic groundwater pollution, and anti-microbial resistance. He analyzed some of the first REACH files from an economics perspective (e.g. mercury in measuring devices) and helped develop guidelines for proportionality assessments of risk reduction measures related to PBTs.
