The Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković” (IBISS), part of the University of Belgrade, has joined the EDC-MASLD consortium as a new partner. IBISS is Serbia’s leading multidisciplinary institution in the field of biological sciences, conducting fundamental and applied research across biochemistry, molecular biology, physiology, genetics, ecology, neurobiology, and environmental protection.
Within Work Package 5, IBISS contributes its expertise in perinatal programming, investigating how exposure to Endocrine-Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs) during pregnancy influences liver and endocrine function in offspring. The team focuses on sex-dependent in utero effects of EDCs on the endocrine axis and the development of Metabolic dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD).
Using a mouse model of MASLD, IBISS explores how perinatal EDC exposure alters hormonally regulated effectors of hepatic lipid metabolism, particularly those controlled by sex hormones and glucocorticoids.
The Principal Investigators are Nataša Veličković, Danijela Vojnović Milutinović, and Ana Djordjević.
