Our principal investigators Prof. Jörn Schattenberg from Saarland University and Prof. Elisabetta Bugianesi from University of Torino recently attended the United European Gastroenterology Week (ueg week) in Vienna. Both chaired the sesseion on “Metabolic dysfunction: Associated steatotic liver disease” which included questions on:
- epidemiological concerns regarding NAFLD/NASH,
- how to differentiate from alcohol-related liver disease,
- the relationship with the metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular diseases,
- risk stratification and evaluation of fibrosis,
- and therapeutic management.
Both PIs gave speeches on the following topics:
Prof. Schattenberg on “NASH, MASH: Recent developments that challenge current guidelines”
and Prof. Bugianesi on “MASLD and MetALD: The new nomenclature and the combination with moderate alcohol intake” and “The future is here: Blood-based biomarkers of liver disease”.
